The home is located in a (very) small rural village called Waulsort, between the city of Dinant (Belgium) and the city of Givet (France). It lies in the valley of the river Meuse, next to the river and is surrounded by woods. Some pictures of Waulsort and its surroundings can be found here.

Although in the first half of the previous century the home used to be a hotel, the quality should not be compared to hotel service any longer. Although the rooms have no own toilets or showers, all rooms do have a wash table and some have a bidet. There are several toilets per floor and the showers are in another part of the building. On the positive side, the home is pretty large and will be entirely ours (i.e., no visitors other than the participants, organisers and the cook) and the total cost can be kept surprisingly low, which were two main motivations for selecting this location.

Some pictures of the accomodation can be seen here

How to reach SATToSE ?

We put the travelling information on a separate page, to facilitate printing.

We will be welcoming participants on sunday afternoon and monday morning. The actual seminar is intended to start on monday at 10h30.

Goals

We intend to have a very open and dynamic format with plenty of opportunities of interactions between the participants and not too many or too long presentations. The seminar will consist of activities such as plenary discussions, lightning talks on current research projects, small-group work sessions, and so on. Our main goal is to collaborate, to forge new links and to advance the level of synergy in research on advanced tools and techniques for software evolution, not to disseminate older research results. At the very least we will hope you will leave the seminar with plenty of ideas for new papers and future collaborations. All participants will have their say in the organisation of the seminar, so if you have any suggestions, they are heartily welcomed.

Working Topics

Case Studies Repository

Tentative Schedule

The schedule is meant as a rough guideline for the seminar. Dynamic adaptations and evolutions will be welcomed.

Tool demonstrations: plan for 20 minutes and expect ample time for discussions and dynamic adaptations!

PhD student presentations: plan for 15 minutes presentation

Short abstracts of the program are available here

IMPORTANT: sandwiches will be provided on sunday evening!!

Payment

The cost for the full week should be no more than 300 to 350 Euros. This includes full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner every day), rent of sheets, city taxes, and even two gastronomic dinners. Special dietary requirements or vegetarian dishes will be hard to arrange, however. The only costs not covered are drinks from the bar, but again there (very) democratic prices are used. Neither do the costs cover a possible excursion (for example, we may organise a visit to the city of Dinant, or a guided visit to a local brewery in a town nearby). All these extra costs should not exceed 200 Euros.

Note that, since there are only 21 rooms and there may be up to 30 participants (we won't accept more than that), some of the participants may be requested to share the room with another participant. (If you have any preferences – either positive or negative – regarding a potential roommate, please give us a sign.)

Organisers

The seminar is organised by the Research Center on Structural Software Improvement (Centre de Recherche en Restructuration Logicielle), a research collaboration between Prof. Kim Mens (UCL, spokesperson), Prof. Roel Wuyts (ULB) and Pr. Tom Mens (UMH), funded by the Fonds de la Recherche Fondamentale Collective (FRFC-FNRS) in Belgium. The research centre studies a variety of formalisms, tools and approaches for advanced software restructuring, maintenance and evolution.

However, due to a change of jobs, Roel Wuyts unfortunately had to cancel his participation in the workshop. His role of co-organiser of this seminar was taken over by Dr. Johan Brichau, currently employed as a post-doc researcher at UCL.

Participants

Due to restricted space availability, attendance to the seminar is by invitation only. We "tried" to invite an equal mix of young and older researchers, male and female, and coming from different countries and institutes. The choice was not easy; respecting our self-imposed criteria even less. Nevertheless, in the end we did manage to convince an interesting group of researchers. The following persons have already confirmed their participation. Some more participants are still pending. Please do not disclose this information with others, for now.

Kim Mens (organizer)

Université catholique de Louvain

Belgium

Tom Mens (organizer)

Université
